Released
in 1990, the Ah Via Musicom album propelled Eric Johnson
into many aspects of our lives. You may recall hearing the hit single
"Cliffs of Dover" over P.A. systems during sporting
events, in the background during traffic reports or even as muzak
in elevators. This album provided a valuable step in the ladder
of commercial success.
Now a near platinum album, Ah Via Musicom
is generally regarded as the "breakthrough" album for
Eric. This album provides such groove oriented tunes such as "Righteous"
and "Steve's Boogie", as well as the aural beauty
of "Forty Mile Town". If you don't have this album

Desert Rose
Eric Johnson/Vince Mariani
Desert Rose that dances, in the heat of the
sky,
I must pattern my life about you;
You can make the most when the waters run dry,
Look into the well deep inside you.
My Desert Rose,
Born are the few;
Always with me,
A vision of you.
Acrolith reflection, that floats through my
dreams,
Arid is the dust underneath me;
Something far away, a mirage so it seems,
What I long to see, oh, could it be?
My Desert Rose,
Born are the few;
Always with me,
A vision of you.
My Desert Rose,
Born are the few;
Always with me,
A vision of you.
My Desert Rose,
Born are the few;
Always with me,
A vision of you.
Don't fade away.
Don't fade away.
High Landrons
Eric Johnson
Way down here on the edge of these snows,
I hear a strong wind whine;
Goin' to where the freedom bells ring,
Into the highlands I must climb.
On this journey, I have been here before.
Tryin' to reach the other side;
I just can't get through the top of these hills,
Without a mountain guide.
Took such a while to find you,
Oh could you show me the way?
To get to the place I once knew,
You're the only one, so take me through High Landrons.
Up ahead, I know the trailway stops,
From there on, only eagles fly;
Burning (with) visions of the way back to you,
They're burnin' through the eastern sky.
Now and then I see a shooting star,
Lighting up the silver blue;
It's shining all the way down the mountain skyway.
Oh, it's shining straight from you.
Took all my life to find you,
Oh, could you show me the way?
To get to the land I once knew,
You're the only one, so take me through High Landrons.
Up ahead...
Took all my life to find you,
Oh, could you show me the way?
To get to the land I once knew,
You're the only one, so take me through High Landrons.
Up ahead...

Nothing
Can Keep Me from You
Eric Johnson
Close my eyes, see your reflection
In my life, you always are;
Now I know, my true direction,
'Cause I see, your shining star.
Call out my name,
When you do, I will let you know,
Now my attention's on you;
I was down on the ground,
But I don't need to think about it,
Nothing can keep me from you.
Been so long, to get the reception
Of your smile, I keep in view;
And all your love, and your sweet affection
Makes me feel, so close to you.
Call out my name,
When you do, I will let you know,
Now my attention's on you;
I was down on the ground,
But I don't need to think about it,
Nothing can keep me from you.
Call out my name,
When you do, I will let you know,
Now my attention's on you;
I was down on the ground,
But I don't need to think about it,
Nothing can keep me from you;
Nothing can keep me from you.
If you could just, give me one more try;
'Cause I'm down on my knees,
And I hope, there's no hang about it,
Nothing should keep me from you.

Forty Mile Town
Eric Johnson
I got a way I can find you,
Down the melody ranch, I know you're there most everyday,
That's where you like to spend some time alone.
I need to talk to you,
Tell you what I feel, like warm hellos in the morning mist,
And you're the magic that turns my heart around.
Seems to me, we're really living way too fast,
Oh when we should let the story of love last,
Sometimes I just want to go and drift away...
And move onto some forty mile town.
I got a way I can see you,
Close my eyes and start to watch the ancient waters flow,
Like a crystal dance that paupers know so well.
That's the way kings keep dreamin',
Hold their head up high and live below forty mile skies,
The way that it can be in ocean towns.
Things of this world, guess we never really
own;
Oh that mountain falls, and then we're goin' home.
We should try to make the best and get away...
And work on towards a forty mile town.
Seems to me we really need to feel love more,
Oh, an ordinary smile opens the door.
Sometimes all I want to do is dream away...
And wake up in some forty mile town.
