Generally, the pictures you will see of Eric Johnson are of him
and his trusty Stratocaster. Although he likes the Strats very
much, he also uses other styles of guitars.
On some of the more jazz fusion tunes he can be found wielding
a Gibson ES335, or a Gibson Les Paul. Eric also has been known
to use Gibson SG's and Flying V's. Due to a large number of his
guitars being stolen in the past, the exact number in his collection
is known by very few. In fact, during a recent interview, when
asked which was his favorite, he stated "I have several Strats
and some Gibsons. I like them all. They're all just different."
That really sums it up in his words.
One thing we can tell you is that after 30 years of playing he
has learned to do much of his own amp and guitar work. He is fully
versed in Electrical Circuitry and Polarity and can smell a dying
battery a mile away.
